Unique Home or Garden Hanging Decorations

Three Bees and Nectar Bee hearts mosaic hanging decoration

I've also been making a selection of hanging decorations that can be used in the home or garden. Lots of bees and butterflies to brighten up a wall or fence. These bees all have iridescent wings that shine with metallic colours when the light catches them. There's the Nectar Bee heart with bumblebees heading towards a shining amber drop and the Three Bees have similar backgrounds to the hearts with a greens and pale pink Abstract Garden background, there's the creams and beige Honeycomb background and a turquoise ombre background on the Three Bees and shades of sky blues on the heart.

Cloud of Butterflies Mosaic Hanging Heart

There's also the Clouds of Butterflies hearts with iridescent, matt and translucent butterflies making lovely palettes of colour to hang in the home or garden.

Butterflies and Daisies Mosaic Hanging Decoration

More butterflies can be found on the Butterflies and Daisies decoration, with each daisy having a mini millefiori daisy at it's centre and the butterflies having iridescent wings.

Mini Holly Wreath and Winter Holly Hearts

And finally, as it's getting to that time of year, there's some Mini Holly Wreaths and some Holly Winter hearts all with iridescent, matt and traslucent leaves and raised red berries all on a cracked, icy white background.

Des Res's for your Garden Birds

Butterfly & Blossom bird box / White Daisy Meadow bird box / Green Man bird box
There's a new range of the Mosaic Maison bird nest boxes in my shop. There are two robin/wren boxes with the open front which they prefer using. One has a Butterfly and Blossom design with two teeny Orange Tip butterflies and pink and white blossom flowers. The other has a Green Man to watch out over your garden while the protecting the chicks growing inside the box with a bit of extra insulation from the sun and wind. The other bird box is a 32mm hole which is suitable for blue tits (and other birds which are listed in the item description in my shop), and the blue tit was the inspiration for the colour palette for the White Daisy Meadow design with two blue butterflies, and the background and box are various shades of blue too.

The Hedgerow Design

Bees and Hedgerow Hanging Plaque
A customer was thinking of getting a hanging plaque from me, but couldn't make up her mind about a design. A few conversations later, and the idea of a hedgerow was given to me, as it was the name of her house. I originally came up with a design with dog roses, rosehips and blackberries, and made that as a general hanging plaque because I liked the idea of that design with my trademark bees included. That design morphed into a conifer, holly and blackthorn design to match the hedges around the house. I then made another roses version with the sloe berries and flowers of the blackthorn (currently available in my Etsy shop). I can see this hedgerow idea being quite a fruitful one. Customers do give me some great design inspiration.

Beautiful Blue Sky

Beautiful Blue Sky Mosaic Hanging Plaque

This is a design that I first made on a bird bath, but it was crying out to go onto a wall plaque, and I got commissioned to make it into one, so here it is. Think it's come out quite well.

More Bees (and Butterflies)!

Bees, Butterflies & Dragonflies

Following the Bees in Blossom and Bees in Blue Daisies, the next Bees Bird Bath is the Bees, Butterflies & Dragonflies. I like the way this design has come out. It has a fabric design look to it, which I always say my designs tend to either look like fabric, or ceramic designs.

Cloud of Butterflies / Butterflies & Daisies Hearts

The other new designs are these two butterfly hearts, the Cloud of Butterflies, and Butterflies & Daisies. I think these have the fabric look too. The Cloud of Butterflies is a nice one to make because I get to create a large palette of butterfly colours and mixing colours for designs is one of my favourite things.

All of these are already sold, but all could be recreated on request. Either email me with the design name on jo@josara.co.uk or come and find me on Facebook and message me there.

Beautiful butterflies!

Summer Meadow Mosaic Butterfly Hanging Decoration

I've found some new bases to work on. Butterflies! Bit of a mosaic classic, but I'm going to try and do something different on them. The first one I put a version of my Summer Meadow design. I was originally going to go random with the flowers, but it ended up as a mirror version on each wing, which I think gives a lovely folk look to this butterfly, which even has mini iridescent butterflies in it's wings.

Blue Flowers Mosaic Butterfly Hanging Decoration

The second Blue Flowers butterfly I wanted to look kind of like blue and white china. I've used blues and turquoise to create the flowers including roses, poppies and daisies. Then an off white grout to finish, which has actually given the butterfly the look of sea worn blue and white pottery. It would look great in a seaside theme room, or just as a splash of blue on a fence or wall in the garden.

Mosaic Bird Box

Spanish Farmhouse Mosaic Garden Bird Box

After adding a couple of bee houses to my wildlife range, I thought I'd add some bird nest boxes too. The first one is called Spanish Farmhouse. It has a geometric blue and white design mosaic which, with the wooden roof gives a lovely rustic feel. The sides of the mosaic have a line of metallic copper and the sides and back of the box are painted with a muted putty colour which gives a fresh, modern feel, so this bird house will look great in any style of garden.

Summer Meadow Mosaic Garden Bird Box

The second bird box is using the Summer Meadow design that I've used on garden ball decorations before. It's a lovely bright design with poppies, buttercups, cornflowers, daisies and butterflies, that will add some colour to your garden, while being practical for the birds to nest in, in spring and roost in, in winter. The roof and sides of the mosaic are painted with sky blue, and the sides and back are painted white to keep the whole box looking light and airy.

Mosaic Garden Ball Sphere Decoration Ornaments

Mosaic Garden Ball Sphere Decoration Ornaments
I've made a couple of new garden ball decorations using some bird bath designs. The first is a Canal Folk Roses one which is a lovely bright design to add colour to a border. The other ball is the Daisy Bee and has a design with a combination of bird bath motifs on it, including daisies in 2 sizes, a bee, and mini butterflies. Another one that would look great in a container, or on a patio as part of a pot display.

Water Lily and Mini Bee Garden Mosaic Spheres

Water Lily Mosaic Garden Ball

I made my first garden sphere ever recently and straight away I had the urge to make another one in a different design, then the butterflies are joined by bees, on large and on mini balls too. It's gone sphere mad round here.

The Water Lily Pond Ball has two goldfish, two dragonflies with iridescent wings, and white water lily flowers all on a jade green background. It would look really great next to a pond. Or it would be great if you can't have a pond in your garden as a replacement.

Bees and Butterflies on Mosaic Garden Spheres

A couple of designs I have made for customers are variations of the original butterfly ball with bees added too.

Mini Bee Mosaic Garden Spheres

And these are the mini balls with a single bumblebee on which are very cute, and great as plant markers or to use in a container as decoration.

If you've seen anything you like, you can always message me on Facebook and I'll see if I can make what you're after.

Summer Daisies Mosaic Garden Sphere

Summer Daisies Mosaic Garden Sphere Decoration
I've been meaning to make a garden ball for a while now after it was suggested that one of my rose designs would look good as one. In the end I decided to adapt another of my designs to make this Summer Daisies Mosaic Garden Sphere. It's come out really well. A perfect little ball of summer to add colour to your garden in a border, as a lawn ornament, or on a patio, you could even use it as decoration indoors. All the butterflies are iridescent to add metallic shine to the design as well as the bold red and orange colours. I think I'm going to end up making one of these for myself. And I can definitely see me trying more sphere designs. They are actually very relaxing to make, considering the shape.

Butterfly Love Mosaic Garden Bird Baths

Butterfly Love Mosaic Garden Bird Baths (two tone hearts with hidden butterflies)
Butterfly Love Mosaic Garden Bird Bath (two tone hearts with hidden butterflies)

These two versions of a new design have a hidden secret. The design name, Butterfly Love, gives a clue. One way up the design is two tone rows of hearts, but turn the bird bath 180 degrees and the hearts become single colour rows of butterflies. Not everyone can see these butterflies, so if you can it's your secret. It comes in two colour palettes at the moment, the blues and greens, and the pastels.

Butterflies and Hearts Mosaic Water Dish

Blue Butterflies or Hearts Mosaic Garden Water Dish

This was spotted by one of my eagle eyed Facebook followers when I showed a work in progress shot of this dish. I was aiming for a neat pattern of butterflies in the base of this water dish, but she thought it was showing some upside down heart shapes. It is actually a reversible design, which is great. So you can either have Blue Butterflies, or Blue Hearts as your water dish decoration.

Commissions

A couple of commissions that I've done recently. This first one was to design a new heart hanging strand with 3 insects on to match a butterfly set that the customer already had. I knew I'd put the bee and dragonflies on because I use them a lot in my work, but I had to create something new. So I made the ladybirds and painted on the fiddly decoration that I could never make with mosaic. They look great.

This second commission was for a door plaque to compliment the customers lovely stained glass door panel in her new house. Not something I usually do because I like to come up with completely unique to me designs. This was borrowing from another design. But I think I've put my own stamp on it with the leaf shape background.

Vintage Fabric Effect Mosaic House Number

Vintage Fabric Look Mosaic House Numbers
Vintage Fabric Look Mosaic House Number

These house number mosaic plaques have been designed to look like they've got a vintage Liberty style fabric background. The mosaic is made up of small flowers, and butterflies, filled in with small leaves. The grout on the front design has then been overpainted with weatherproof paint to create a rough texture to finish the vintage fabric look.

Delphinium Reflections Bird Bath

Delphinium Reflections Mosaic Garden Bird Bath

The idea of the mosaic design in this bird bath was having a spike of mixed delphinium blooms and the mini butterflies flitting around them as if they are being reflected in the water of the bird bath. The blue butterflies are iridescent and the plum butterflies are transparent to add interest and depth to the design. Each delphinium flower has a mini white daisy with a lilac centre in it's centre.

Patchwork Butterflies Mosaic Wall Decoration Art

Patchwork Butterflies Mosaic Wall Decoration Art

The wooden frame has a lovely pale sky blue wash over it which lets the wood grain through and compliments the tile colours used in the mosaic picture. The mosaic butterflies are in rich colours with some iridescent tiles use that shine with metallic colours when the light catches them. The grout is a lovely warm creamy white.

Beautiful Butterflies

Blue & Orange Butterfly Mini Bath

Have you noticed the amount of butterflies around already? Looks like it might be a good year for them. And seeing all these beauties has inspired me to make some more butterfly mosaic designs. I've made a butterfly mini bath which is designed to have pebbles in for the butterflies to land on and sip the water from the edges.

Blue & Purple Cloud of Butterflies Slate Decoration

The other design is a slate garden decoration with a cloud of mosaic butterflies on it. Some are plain colour tiles and some are iridescent so shine with metallic colours when the light catches them. Great for adding colour in a border, or as part of a display of pots, or next to a pond, or......

Butterfly Compass Mosaic Garden Bird Bath

Butterfly Compass Bird Bath

Butterfly Compass Bird Bath
Another new bird bath design. I've had the idea to make a compass in a bird bath for a while. I'd also made a bird bath recently using the mini butterflies. It suddenly came to me that they could be fluttering in between the compass points to make up the design. So the Butterfly Compass Bird Bath took shape.

I've used some plain colour and some iridescent tiles to make the butterflies. The iridescent tiles add such interest to the mosaic with their shiny metallic colours. This bird bath is a great ornament for a garden, plus it's practical for the birds, plus it would be handy for a gardener as the compass points when set up to face their true directions could be used to help place plants where they'll like it best, with more sun, more shade etc. What could be a better gift for a wildlife loving gardener?

Butterflies on Stone Mosaic Garden Hanging Decoration

Butterflies on Stone Mosaic Garden Ornament
Butterflies on Stone Mosaic Garden Decoration

A bit of mixed media added to my website today. The Butterflies on Stone Mosaic Hanging Decoration. The stones have hand painted butterflies on them. I've used layers of paint to create an interesting effect and to give them a metallic shine. The stones are then set into a mosaic on a hand cut base which has had a wire hanger added to it. The mosaic is made with shades of turquoise, blue and green and finished with a grey grout to bring the stones into the design. The back is painted with a sky blue weatherproof paint. All the materials used are weatherproof so the ornament could be used all year in the garden. But I think it would also look fab indoors, maybe in a bathroom.
