Wired Bird Boxes

Rambling Rose Bird Box

Daisy Chain Bird Box

I love hand decorating with paint. Adding effects and creating patterns. I also like creating and engineering things. So as I've got the tools to use wire for my jewellery it seemed like a good idea to find a way to add some wire to the bird boxes to create a raised effect to the designs. I really like the finished look. Especially as I've got some special paint that is suitable to outdoor use that I can use to create even more effects on the wire. For these two bird boxes I've created a rusty copper look to the wire. Practical for the birds, and decorative for the garden. A perfect combination.

Ditsy Daisy Mug and Flower Pot Set

Blue and Yellow Ditsy Daisy Mug and Plant Pot Set

I had the idea for this Ditsy Daisy set after I wanted to put together a set as a gift for a gardener which would include a handpainted mug. Actually, this set could be used by anyone, anywhere. You could put the pot on the kitchen table with a house plant in it, and drink your tea at the table with the paper. Or you could put something like a geranium, or a small strawberry plant in the pot and use it outdoors on a garden table where you can sip your tea in the sunshine.

Purple and Orange Ditsy Daisy Mug and Plant Pot Set

It would still make a great gift for a gardener, with it's daisy flower design that I designed to have the look of a stylised flower border. The set currently comes in two colour versions. One with blue, yellow, mint, and lime flowers. The other has  magenta, orange, purple, and mint daisies. The design has a vintage feel to it with it's ditsy flowers, but it's also got a very contemporary look with the design being restricted to a band of colour. It would suit lovers of traditional. or modern. So, everyone.

Folksy Handmade - Crafty Christmas Cards

Suncatcher Christmas Tree Card

I've made my first Christmas Cards this year after I had been experimenting with hand painted suncatcher designs on other cards. I like the idea of something a bit different for Christmas cards. And I like the idea of a craft being used to create the design. So for this week's Folksy Friday collection I've put together a selection of handmade cards with different crafts being used to make the designs. Something special to send this Christmas.

As always, click on the pic to go to the seller's shop.

Ditsy Flower Suncatcher Cards

Ditsy Flowers Suncatcher Card

I'm still coming up with ideas for my suncatcher card range. This time the design is fixed, unlike my other designs which can be removed to use as a proper hanging suncatcher, or a bookmark. These are just pretty cards that if displayed on a windowsill, or somewhere where the light can shine through them, will throw the pattern onto other surfaces. Which makes these cards something different from the norm. I'm trying to design things that would be good for gardeners, to keep a theme for my shop. But these cards would be perfect for anyone that likes flowers, vintage, or just fun, bright things.

The cards have vintage fabric style, ditsy print daisies on them. One with orange, magenta, mint, and white flowers, one with blue, lime, yellow and mint flowers, and the other card is called Double Ditsy because it uses both colourways back to back to create a very deep, rich pattern.

As I design all my patterns, and hand-paint them all, you know you're getting something very different from anything else you can buy. Which is all part of the fun for me. I love creating my own designs, because I know no one else is doing the same. It's what handmade is all about, for me. Individual styles that make the items special and unique.

Hand Painted Mexican Aztec Garden Plant Pot

The recent hot weather has inspired me to create some plant pots that would add a hot, dry feel to a garden, or room, even in winter. I hand painted terracotta pots first with bands of colour including, blue, magenta, and ochre. Then I've edged some of the bands with black. Next I've overpainted the bands with rustic Mexican Aztec inspired geometric patterns and symbols. Finally the paint was fixed with heat. For some reason that made the white paint on the fish band go a kind of peachy colour. Which, actually, looks really good and adds some artificial age to the pots. These pots would look great with a cactus, or succulent in them.
