Folksy Handmade - Practical Hearts

Last year I did an alternative Valentine gift guide with roses that were practical, just as an option instead of getting flowers that wouldn't last long. So for this year I've gathered a list of Practical Hearts. They're like the card and gift in one. The heart design is the sentiment, and then the item can be used all year without it looking out of place.

I haven't included jewellery because I think that's an obvious one. Heart jewellery is always going to be practical all year. Some people don't wear jewellery though, so these might be good instead. And some people aren't really into 'in your face' hearts and flowers valentine gifts (like me) and I think these would be a good alternative for them too. The piggie purse is the most subtle of all. The hearts are on the lining.

I've gone for a range of prices and styles, so hopefully there's something here for all tastes, and budgets. If you see anything you like, click on the pic to visit the shop for more details, and to get the link to send as a hint to the other half. You know it's easiest. : )

Folksy Handmade - Practical Valentine Roses

Retro Roses Mosaic Garden Bird Bath

I had to do a Valentine Folksy Friday collection sometime, so I'm doing it this week so the ideas are there, ready for the January payday (that's been a long time coming, huh).

If I'm honest, I don't really do Valentine's Day. My other half is quite pleased. It means he doesn't have to fork out on inflated priced flowers. I've never really gone in for having bunches of flowers given to me. I'd rather have a plant (which will be cheaper than a bunch of flowers), or even a packet of seeds. Then I can grow the flowers for myself, a load more than a bunch worth too. That's much more practical. Like my Retro Roses Mosaic Bird Bath. You're giving roses, so there's the romantic bit, yet you're also giving a useful wildlife present that'll last for years too, the practical bit.

So, there's the theme of this week's Folksy Friday. It's Roses for Valentine's Day. But, it's roses with a use, not roses that will wither within a week.

All the items picked you can either use or wear and have a rose design, a rose theme, or are rose coloured. Plus there are a few DIY kits too. A perfect gift for the Valentine that loves crafting. See the other ideas here -

(P.S. This is clearly a list of gifts for females, I will be looking into male gifts next week.)

Folksy Handmade Gift Ideas - Vintage/Retro / Men Pt 2.

Mosaic Plaque (Dad's shed sign?)

As I had to combine these two gift list boards when I was making them the first time round (due to Pinterest not playing the game that day), I thought I might as well update both lists together. So please have a browse for newly found items for both Vintage/Retro lovers, and Mens gifts.

Folksy Handmade Gift Ideas - Vintage / Retro

I love retro, and vintage, so this was an easy list for me to put together. There's some fab things here, and lots of new shops.

Bit of a mare on Pinterest today, I couldn't set up a new board for this theme. So, I've added it onto the Men's gift idea board. Not a bad thing. It means the Men's gifts get a second wind.

I don't have anything vintage/retro to go on the list, so the pic to go with this blog is my closest look item which is my slate daisy ornament/letter rack, it has a slightly vintage look about it. The items on my gift list have a much more retro/vintage feel.

Have a look and see for yourself -

Folksy Handmade Christmas - Vibrant

Fiesta Mosaic Christmas Bauble Ornament

This collection of Christmas decorations from Folksy.com is inspired by the colours used in my mosaic Fiesta Christmas bauble. So you'll find magenta, gold, orange, and red in this set of items.

I've decided to add all the Folksy Christmas themed decorations to one board, so you can browse all the themes at once. And you may wish to mix and match items, because there are some really lovely things in all the categories, so it's good to have them all in one place.
