Elements Mosaic Garden Bird Bath

A new design that has evolved from a design I used on a garden heart recently. I've called it Elements because there is a touch of fire and earth, and water and ice in each band of colour. The colour stripes are a mix of plain tiles, some iridescent to add metallic shine and some translucent to add depth. The background and border I have kept as a neutral stone grey to tie in with the element theme and to show off the bands of colour even more.

I had some magenta nuggets that I wanted to use in a design, and a slate heart that I wanted to create a garden ornament out of. So I designed a soft palette of purples, browns and pastel blues and toned down the magenta by adding a dark blue mottling to them so they tied in with the design. The white tiles used have a slightly pitted surface that has taken specks of the grout to create an almost white granite effect. It's a lovely Muted Heart Garden Decoration for adding a touch of subtle colour to the home or garden.

Have you noticed the amount of butterflies around already? Looks like it might be a good year for them. And seeing all these beauties has inspired me to make some more butterfly mosaic designs. I've made a butterfly mini bath which is designed to have pebbles in for the butterflies to land on and sip the water from the edges.

Butterflies on Stone Mosaic Garden Decoration

A bit of mixed media added to my website today. The Butterflies on Stone Mosaic Hanging Decoration. The stones have hand painted butterflies on them. I've used layers of paint to create an interesting effect and to give them a metallic shine. The stones are then set into a mosaic on a hand cut base which has had a wire hanger added to it. The mosaic is made with shades of turquoise, blue and green and finished with a grey grout to bring the stones into the design. The back is painted with a sky blue weatherproof paint. All the materials used are weatherproof so the ornament could be used all year in the garden. But I think it would also look fab indoors, maybe in a bathroom.

I've adapted part of the Butterfly Bird Bath design to use it as a mosaic decoration on this purple slate paddlestone. These paddlestones are great as they are usually slightly slanted so the iridescent tiles used for the butterfly's wings catch the light and shine with metallic magenta, blue and gold. The circle is made with a pale lavender / lilac tile to compliment the slate and the butterfly.

It's a lovely garden ornament that can be used all year round, but it would also make a lovely ornament for the home too. Or even a fancy paperweight for a desk.

I've been wanting to do something with some iridescent blue tiles I've had for a while, but I couldn't think of a design that would do them justice. But, since I've come up with the Three series of designs which has Bee and Dragonfly in it, Butterfly was an obvious choice for using these tiles as wings. The rest of bird bath design has circles of light aqua blue on a stone grey background tiles. A really fresh contemporary look that would actually suit any style of garden.

Mosaic Bumblebee with iridescent wings

The latest listing to my shop is this mosaic bumblebee with rose pink daisies on a purple slate paddlestone. The bee's wings are iridescent so shine with metallic colours in certain light angles. And the daisy flowers have translucent mauve glass centres to match the plum slate. This decoration would look great placed in a bee border, or near a plant that the bees love. The help you along, this decoration comes with a packet of bee flower seeds.

This is another smaller sized bird bath. I had already designed a 25cm version of a stylised ammonite fossil bed. This is a 19cm bird bath with a single blue ammonite design in the centre. The tile colours used in the ammonite are shades of blue and turquoise, including translucent dark turquoise, and a sapphire blue iridescent tiles. The surrounding tiles are a light stone grey which gives the impression of the rock of a fossil bed.

25cm Ammonite Bird Bath

The larger 25cm bird bath has more ammonites showing and partially showing through the grey rock bed, made with mid grey tiles. These ammonites are in shades of green, and grey blue, and also include translucent and iridescent tiles to add interest and depth the the design.

Linear Heather Moor Mosaic Garden Bird Bath

The second of my new Linear range of bird bath designs is now available. This one is called Heather Moor and uses purples, greens, and blue-greys.There are translucent tiles and pebbles used again to add depth and interest.

I think this Linear design would look great in any style of garden as it's got a contemporary modern design, yet the colours would look great in traditional cottage garden too.

My latest range of bird baths is called Linear. This is the first design in the range and it's named Shoreline. It uses the colours you'd find by the shore and includes, sky blues, sea greens, and sandy browns. The pattern line colours are randomly placed and some include translucent tiles to represent seaglass, and stone pebbles which add depth and interest to the design. I've used terracotta tiles on the border to blend in with the saucer and focus the eye on the base.













The Highlands In Your Garden

This is the latest version of my Ripple Bird Bath design. This one is inspired by the colours of heather moorland under a brooding sky. I've used purples, greens, and grey blues in this palette. The stones are Scottish pebbles and are stacked like a cairn, and there is a ripple of iridescent tiles next to them, and a ripple of clear heather glass to add depth and interest to the design.

I've created a couple more of my mosaic Dragonfly and Bee designs. This time on some fab slate paddlestones. The colours of the slate really come out when they are wet. The purple slate becomes a gorgeous dark plum. The grey slate becomes mottled with a pastel green. They look really good. The mosaic dragonfly has misty grey wings with pastel pink, blue and green in some light angles. But when the light catches them just right they shine with metallic blue, magenta and gold. The bee has translucent blue wings that shine electric blue and gold.

This Fossil bird bath has a mosaic design of an Ammonite Fossil  at the bottom, and I've surrounded it with grey tiles to respresent the rock it might have been encased in. When the bath is filled with water I think it will look like a rock pool from the Jurrasic Coast. Because the tiles have been cut very thinly they are laying at different heights to each other which gives the surface a slightly undulating effect which adds to the fossil's texture.

Purple & Blue Abstract Mosaic Garden Bird Water Bath

 

I have been experimenting with pattern and colour combination again, and I've created this Purple & Blue Abstract Mosaic Bird Bath. The colours of this bird bath came from the stone I was using being purple, and the iridescent tile I wanted to use having a purple iridescence on a blue background. So I decided on the colour pallete starting with shades of blue and purple and added turquoises and greys. I had the idea to make the design out of full square tiles, half tile rectangles, and quarter tile squares randomly placed. On the rim the tiles have grooves and the grout has collected in the grooves and gives a really nice effect and an instant aged look.

I am in the process of making a matching pot for this bird bath. So, depending on how they are received it might turn into another ongoing range. Watch this space.



Blue Rim Ripple Mosaic Garden Bird Water Bath



The other bird bath I've listed recently is another version of my Ripple design. This time I've added tiles to the rim of the bath. It's given yet another different feel to this design. It reminds me of a ceramic bowl that's got circles of glaze on it.

I bloomin' love mosaic. You can get so many different styles and feels using one material in different colour palettes, and patterns.
